Druk Yul - the 'Land of the Peaceful Dragon' ranges,
in just 200 kms, from the snows of 7,300m peaks in
the north, through high alpine valleys and pastures
to the steamy jungles of the Duars plain in the
south. It is a land of incredible natural beauty,
unpolluted, unspoiled and pristine. Few foreigners
are afforded the opportunity to visit this small
Himalayan kingdom.
Bhutan considers, with reason, that too many
visitors would strain their limited facilities, and
that rapid development might upset the unique
harmony and balance of their land. Thus the
fortunate visitor to Bhutan still finds the full
warmth of her people and discovers the paradise of
her highland pastures, peaks, forests, lakes and
flowers.
Visa Info
All visitors to Bhutan must hold valid passport for
entry. Visas are issued after a tour / program is
booked and confirmed. Visa is given for the period
of 30 days upon arrival after the payment of US$ 20
in cash.
An airport tax of US$12 has to be paid preferably in
local currency, Ngultrum on departure out of Paro
airport.
Money
US Dollars cash or Traveller's Cheques can be
exchanged in hotels and Banks, though it is advised
to have them exchanged in larger towns.. Credit
cards are slowly being accepted in limited hotels
only.
Climate
Bhutan has an ideal weather conditions for visiting
in all the four seasons. In winter the days are warm
and sunny although night temperatures can plummet a
bit. Some places like Ha, Paro, Thimphu, Tongsa and
Bumthang have a colder climate with occasional
snowfalls in the winter. The seasons can be
designated as follows,
Winter: December to February. (10-18 °C Days, 0-5 °C
Nights, Dry)
Spring: March to May. (20-28 °C Days, 10-16 °C
Nights, Dry)
Summer: June-August ( Wet and rainy)
Autumn: September to November (16-18 °C Days, 5-10
°C Nights, Dry).
It is considered the best season for trekking in
Bhutan. |
