Dolpo Region |

North to the
Himalayan Mountains, this is the
virgin area visited by very few
tourists. It is a remote area not
easily accessible. In spite of the
difficulties, trekking in the Dolpo
region has its own charm. People
here still lead a primitive life,
practicing a pre-Buddhist religion-
Bon Po. The landscape here is a
total contrast to the green lush
vegetation found in the rest of the
country. It is dry arid land full of
ancient caves and nomadic lifestyle
with big herds of yak, sheep and
mountain goats. Even in the monsoon
season, this reason has a blue sky
and splendid mountain views as it
lies in the rain shadow area. The
trail goes over three high passes,
the Kagmara La [5115m], Baga La
[5090m] and Numa La [5360m] passing
the deep-blue tranquil Phoksundo
Lake and finally concludes at Juphal
descending the gorge-side path of
Tarap Khola. |
